"Fresh Oslofjord"

To be able to help the Oslofjord, we need to know what is happening down there. We need to map and get concrete facts on the table. Horten, with its unique location on the Oslofjord, is a natural place for both innovation and environmental improvement. Using advanced sensors and autonomous submarines, Kongsberg Discovery has been creating ecological base maps of the seabed in the Oslofjord for the past five years. This technology allows us to see down to a level of detail of 2–4 cm – an insight that was unthinkable just five years ago.

In this way, data is collected on, for example, fish stocks. The absence of fish is a clear signal that the fjord is struggling. In collaboration with the Institute of Marine Research and the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), they have mapped what the fjord looks like, which species are found and which areas are most vulnerable. This mapping is an important part of the project "Frisk Oslofjord".
