Things and things happening in Horten
The world's first hit composed by a fjord!
We will give the Oslofjord its voice – literally and thus the attention it deserves.
Using advanced undersea technology and a little artistic freedom, we are now creating the world's first hit composed by a fjord .
Horten is known for groundbreaking technology. And for culture. This is the project where these meet.
Welcome to Norway's first low mountain hotel!
Norway's first low-mountain hotel can be found in Horten. Only 2 meters above sea level! How about a conference with a bottom trip and an after waterski party? Or Captain Redbeard's pirate hotel for little pirates and pirate girls?
Simply put, it's all about having fun here!
Oslofjord Visitor Center
Explore the Oslofjord! Welcome to the Oslofjord Visitor Center at Karljohansvern in Horten. Here you will find experiences and activities for the whole family that will inspire, delight and create curiosity about life in the Oslofjord. We have creative workshops, marine games, quizzes, posters, microplastic collectors and much more!
Here, both children and adults can learn something while having fun.
Walk the plank on a real pirate beach
Rørestrand is not only one of Norway's finest swimming spots – it's also a real pirate beach. In addition to a Tiki bar, comfortable sun loungers, swaying palm trees and pirate flags, you'll also find plenty of other fun things to do.
The rescue company
Did you know that the Norwegian Lifesaving Association has its headquarters in Horten? Here you will find a hotel, restaurant, sea camp, courses and many other maritime experiences. Action, play and seriousness for young and old with a focus on good seamanship.
By the way, did you know that Elias lives here?
Munch and the fjord
The Oslo Fjord was a great inspiration for Edvard Munch.
Munch loved Åsgårdstrand – for the light, the silence and the fjord that stretched out beyond. Many of his most famous motifs were painted here, with the fjord as a backdrop.
Horten, Åsgårdstrand is the only place in Norway where you can actually visit his house and see how he lived.
Navy Race
With views of the Oslofjord and roots planted in our proud naval history, the Navy Race is one of Norway's most unique and challenging military obstacle races. Here you run along the coastline, over military terrain. Many of the obstacles are actually in the sea.
