The ultrasound equipment that GE Vingmed supplies is manufactured with proprietary software and electronics, and is used for medical imaging and diagnostics of the heart.
– We are a world leader in this industry and our equipment is used in hospitals in every corner of the world,
says Director of GE Vingmed Ultrasound, Dagfinn Sætre.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEART
The equipment has an ultrasound probe that doctors place outside the body, on the patient's chest. It functions as both a speaker and a microphone.
– The probe sends high-frequency sound into the body, and then it captures the echo that comes back. A lot of exciting processing is done, which gives the doctors a live screen image of the beating heart. Here they can see all the details that tell how the heart behaves, in order to then uncover any diseases or irregularities, explains Sætre.
HIGH DENSITY OF DOCTORAL DEGREES
GE Vingmed Ultrasound has 220 employees. Half of the employees are engineers engaged in research and development.
– Among our engineers, many have extensive expertise in both technology and
the medical aspect as well as the application of what we are doing. Almost 30 of our employees have a doctorate, and in fact many have done their doctorate with us, says Sætre.
ENGINEERING CITY HORTEN
GE Vingmed Ultrasound also benefits from the fact that Horten is an engineering town, with many technology companies.
– Here we manage to recruit engineers and other employees with the right expertise. In addition, it is an attractive area to live in, so that our workforce stays here. For our business, Horten is an excellent place to be, says Sætre.
INCREASING DEMAND
GE Vingmed Ultrasound is well aware that the world's population is increasingly aging. This is reflected in, among other things, more hearts needing to be examined more frequently, which in turn results in higher demand for the company's solutions.
– As the population gets older, the number of people with heart disease is increasing. This creates more work for us. At the same time, a lot is happening on the technology side now. This means that in the future we can enable and realize new things that were previously just dreams and loose ideas. There are no limits to what we can achieve with our equipment by using and implementing new technology. The future will be very exciting, says Sætre
