7Sense in Horten is the company behind new smart technological solutions that make agriculture better. But if you have a good technology idea in another field, it might also be a good idea to talk to Hortensselskapet.
– Horten is a Mecca for anyone involved in technology, there is an incredible amount that originates here. We ourselves like to call ourselves an innovation house. With us you can come and have an idea developed from notes on a yellow note to a finished product that can be sold. In addition, we develop our own products that, among other things, help farmers gain control over important parts of their production, says General Manager Max Tangen.
BETTER MANAGEMENT OF WATER RESOURCES
Agricultural products have been the focus of 7Sense’s attention. The company has developed two potentially revolutionary products. One monitors long-term storage of vegetables, ensuring that the temperature and humidity are correct, and alerts if something is wrong – all to prevent wastage. Another product helps during the critical summer season during the irrigation period.
– Water is super important during the growing season, and it is a very tough period for farmers. We have developed a sensor unit that the farmer can connect to his existing watering cart. Our product helps the farmer gain better control, reduce water use and simply optimize his operations, says Max Tangen.
OBSCENED BY SUSTAINABILITY
Tangen and the rest of the company are concerned with sustainability and believe that the key to developing good solutions in the future is to find the intersection between being far ahead in technology and having the products have a strong sustainability element in them.
– In addition, our products must be easy to use, so that they can truly contribute to sustainability, such as reducing food waste and water use at farmers' farms, says Tangen.
INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED
7Sense was recently one of five Norwegian agritech companies that was specially invited to the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit in London. Here, people from all over the world meet to discuss innovations in agriculture. And 7Sense's products are receiving great recognition and reception internationally.
– We hope and believe that our agricultural products will help revolutionize international agriculture, especially our irrigation system. In many parts of the world, freshwater management is critical, and our product helps optimize water quantity and prevent overuse. This is the world's first product of its kind, and we have applied for a patent. In a few years, we believe that it will be used all over the world – so we have very exciting times ahead of us, says Tangen.
